POLISH TATRA SHEEPDOG
Also known as: PTS, Tatra
HISTORY BRIEF:
DESCRIPTION: Females: weight 60-95 pounds; height 23+ inches. Males: weight 85-115 pounds; height 25+ inches. WORKING CHARACTERISTICS: The Polish Tatra Sheepdog generally has low reactivity but more energy than some other LGD breeds. They can be more dependent on human relationships and may not do well in remote situations. Tatra tend to remain close to their livestock and will place themselves between the stock and any threat while barking for the shepherd's assistance. Tatra do patrol. NOTE: The FCI lists this breed as a herder and some lines may lean towards herding ability which is very problematic for LGD work. RESEARCH YOUR BREEDER and avoid any breeders who promote or select for these traits as some of these dogs may have a higher prey drive or too much energy. |
HEALTH: Polish Tatra Sheepdogs are subject to certain genetic and hereditary diseases and should be screened for these conditions before breeding. Please click the links below to learn more.
